Creating a Compact Forehand is Essential To Success
Are you having problems controlling your forehand. The problem may be the result of your backswing on the forehand side. Take a look at the backswing of Sloan Stephens and you will see how the Racquet has rotated to the left side of her body and she is a right handed player. Her swing size is 10 feet longer than it needs to be. A shorter back swing is needed.
She needs to correct this by bringing the racquet about 5 feet to the other side of her body. The opposite of this is Serena’s back swing demonstrated in the photo below. Serena has slowly made the correction to become one of the most consistent women players of all time.
In contrast Serena’s swing is more vertical to the courts geometry. This creates the opportunity for a more consistent ball contact spot. Below are photos of other top players that had compact backswings.
Nadal is able to create heavy top spin because of the more compact backswing. His consistency is unrivaled as we all know.
Agassi was able to take precious time from his opponent with a more compact back swing and a high level of consistency. In short the key to correcting the inconsistency creating more top spend and taking time from your opponent is to shorten the backswing.
